I heard in a video that some years later he told to the audience during one of his concerts, he was not happy to sing to a dog, even if he found this experience humiliant I think he had a lot of courage to make his perfomance. If he sad word such as "fuck..........." all fans could understand him, But this is the difference with the actual singers, Elvis had been professional and I think this is also one of the reason he bacame the King.

He actually did that because what elvis was doing was so radical back then with music. He was singing black music and being very sexual on stage so to try to limit the controversy of having elvis on stage, he put him in a tux and had him sing to a dog......also for humor but not mainly

The whole family can watch this. He's even wearing a tuxedo. Haha, look, he's got a real Hound Dog. I just made a Hound Dog video today. I sing and play bass guitar at the same time. I've done 3 Elvis songs now with many more to come. With some practice I will be a real Elvis Impersonator. Who sings Elvis songs and plays bass guitar and looks like him besides me? Yeah, I know I have to get better, but I will. I just started doing this. If you don't like me you have to KISS the DOG. LOL.

id say its all pretty demeaning. allen was a pianist who composed jazz, not the most open audience to rock at the time. and its all quiet and awkward. nothing about that says comedy to me, maybe i just dont get it though

Steve Allen wasn't wanting to humiliate Elvis Presley. He was going for comedy. Elvis was a controversial guest; the tux an the dog go right along with the lyrics of the song. Too bad Elvis didn't see the potential humor, but I suppose he did well by playing along, anyway.
