  • Well I finally solved the problem.

I had to change the hard drive and now everything is fine.

Looks like macs can sometimes have dodgy HD

  • Hi my imac is doing the exact same thing.

Did you get this fixed? If so what did you have to do to fix it? How much did it cost? and sis you lose anything off of your harddrive?

  • I didn't get it fixed yet. I tried the genius drive app but nothing changed.

    It's a really strange problem.

For the last few months, it got a bit better, meaning it started after 2-3 tries!

  • Thanks for posting this video I guess.

But Im going to see if I can replace my hard drive.

  • @danielmunoz What part did he replace? :O

Im having this problem on it.

  • I have the same prob. :( How to fix?

  • Just simply re-instal yur OS

  • This never happened with any of my PCs!

  • its those cheep western digital hard drives thats the problem. same thing happened with mine.

  • can ya give me an opinion? i'll give ya my story.

the mac was given to me and booted to desktop but the keyboard and mouse wouldn't respond. (clock was moving though, so not frozen) however on startup, it took a while for the black screen to go into the grey apple.

eventually i tried all those commands to get into safe mode and open firmware etc... eventually the screen just never made it to the grey apple anymore. :( it stays black but im convinced the screen aint dead

  • @JellyTheDonut12 Tthe firmware till G5 has OS 9 icons...

  • All hard drives eventually fail, regardless of whether in a PC, a Mac etc.

This is what scares me when people say they don't back up anything: a hard drive is a tape drive, effectively. It has a lifespan of 5-6 years depending on how often it's used. They don't last forever

  • Is it like running Mac OS 9???
