The Lincoln Tunnel crosses the Hudson River, connecting midtown Manhattan with eastern New Jersey. It is among the most important arterial facilities in the NYC metro area, serving as a critical commuter corridor.

Also Includes: Lincoln Tunnel Expressway, "The Helix", Bergen Hill, JCT New Jersey Turnpike

  • Why don't you have to pay to get into New Jersey?

  • @ArtStone its just the way tolls are set up in the area. for all the hudson river crossings, drivers pay a toll only to enter NY, but not leaving NY.

  • WHAT TOWN DOES Route 495 JCT Route 1/9, North Bergen is it not?

  • @danbarker39 yea i believe so...

  • Interesting news report.

  • For those that DON'T know. Rt. 495 and U.S. 1-9 DOES JCT in North Bergen. And the toll just went up recently to (OUCH!!) $12.00 for passenger cars. Better get an EZ Pass.

  • wow!!! nycross roads

  • @tpir1972 Originally it was. Robert Moses wanted to continue the Long Island Expressway, which still is I-495, to go through the Queens Midtown Tunnel, across Manhattan, and out through the Lincoln Tunnel all the way to the NJ Turnpike. Community opposition cancelled the Mid-Manhattan Expressway, and that eventually dropped the interstate designation on the NJ side.

  • Where's the marker on the side of the tunnel to alert you where you left NY and entered NJ.

  • Is this underwater?

  • @tpir1972 Yes. NJ 495 was I-495 at one time until 1981 when it was downgraded to NJ 495. Why? I don't know.
