A Deferred Student's Appeal to Yale: White and Blue for You by Jackie Milestone

My name is Jackie Milestone and I was deferred from Yale University after applying to the early action pool in the fall of 2011. My hope is that this song and video will help to show that Yale is more than just my first choice school, it is a school I know well and have dreamed of attending ever since I discovered that colleges existed. I was heartbroken when I found out I was deferred and I hope that this video will encourage the admissions officers to give me another chance.

Can I ask: what was your GPA? Also, what were your SAT scores, achievements, etc... I'm a ninth grader also addicted and aspiring to go to Yale. Since you're very open, do you mind sharing it with me?

It's looking like it will most likely be Oberlin College.

Also, what were your basic stats? GPA, class rank, SAT, APs, extra-curricular activities, essays, etc.

I'm not positive where I'll be going instead yet. I have several great options so I'll just have to spend some time deciding. I'm not totally comfortable disclosing all that information over the internet, but I'll just say that (based on people I know who go to Yale and others I know who were admitted to Yale this year) I think I was pretty on par with the rest of the applicant pool. I guess I'll never really know what it is that gets someone into an Ivy League school. :-/

There's always Grad school. Rock Oberlin and your GRE exam and come back showing Yale what you can do. That's my plan. Maybe we'll do graduate together! I'll be cheering for ya!! =)

The secret to getting into Yale and other Ivies? Be a legacy, donate tons of money, be black, and/or be hispanic.

Affirmative action is so awesome. Turn away the true geniuses so that a school can brag about diversity. I thought AA was meant to help people. Accepting a bunch of rich black or hispanic kids seems to be fixing this country. Sad when some of these kids are like 10% hispanic/black and put it down like they are 100%.
