I really don't know who Erin is, but I'm a male and I think it's terrible what happened to her. I have had no desire to try find any of these videos of her. The fact that she was recorded unawares really doesn't do anything for me. Like you said, I can find plenty of naked hot women on the net that consented to being recorded and posted nude.

That's a really interesting observation about why people are drawn to this video. Voyeurism is known as a popular hobby, right? But this brings it to a whole other level where people feel it's ok to violate privacy because the woman doesn't know. I guess there's a correlation to rape culture because when a woman is drunk or drugged, all of a sudden it's ok to take advantage of her. We have a lot of work to do on women's worth (and respect for them) in this culture. But I'm stating the obvious.

it's not that hot at all. I don't think people find it hot because the girl didn't know it she was being film. I was interested simply because 1)it's a famous person, 2) she is good looking. Whether she is a willing or un-willing participant is not a factor.

I'd like to point out that people on Big Brother are (in most cases) consenting to being filmed 24/7 and viewers are aware of the consent.

This is the first I've heard of this incident, but certainly not the first incident like this I've heard of. It's truly despicable, but I don't think it's the rape culture necessarily. If you think about it, everything on TV appeals to voyeuristic natures. Big Brother sticks out the most, but everything is made so that the viewer is peeking through a window into peoples' lives. I know many women that do this, too. I'm not disagreeing with you, but the problem is much deeper in our culture.

It is my assumption that American culture is generally voyeuristic, and this does likely play a role in people's curiosity. But I think you over-read that aspect of it--that it's especially titillating to see a woman who doesn't know she's being filmed--and under-read the fact that Andrews is, in fact, a woman who has already repeatedly been objectified. It doesn't matter that there are scores of naked woman online--here's an attractive woman we've never had the chance to see naked, revealed.

...the lack of consent. To quote Texas comedian Ron White, "Once you see one girl naked, you want to see the rest of them naked." Shallow and tasteless as it may be, it unfortunately speaks to a large part of the American male/masculine population.

Whether or not this voyeuristic sense is ingrained culturally or neurobiologically is up for some debate, but the fact still stands that most heterosexual men simply like to see attractive women without clothes on.

I have to disagree with you in part. I help facilitate consent workshops at the University of Mary Washington with SDS (sorry I missed you when you came to town), so I am very aware of the importance of consent, especially in a culture such as ours so sexually repressed that the stakes of rejection are so high that men (and women) have difficulty asking someone out on a date, much less to get naked with them.

However, I don't believe that the Erin Andrews video is afforded its draw from...
