HEARTBEAT DRESS - model walks on her own heartbeat during Anouk Wipprecht's show at the MQ Vienna Fashion week
The HEARTBEAT dress was developed by Anouk Wipprecht during her artist in residency for quartier21 / MQ Vienna fashion week. The dress records the heartbeat of the model through a small microphone which is installed in a medical stethoscope, placed around the heart-area. The stethoscope is attached to a regulating and control system, developed in collaboration with Stock Interfaces (NL) /V2 labs, that allows the pulsation of the heart to be communicated through speakers that are embedded in the design. During Anouk Wipprechts show on the MQ Vienna Fashion week 2010, the model Carmen walked to her own heartbeat.
With this piece, Anouk Wipprecht likes to make a statement towards the fashion system. According to her, models are being held as 'product displays'. Their behaviour is being limited and controlled by artificial ways of walking in a constructed environment in order to not let the body distract the design. Creating a bridge between product placement and the context that the body has in this setting, Anouk Wipprecht hopes to communicate bodily gestures through sound.
