Thanks for the comments. Installing connectors with this method does not melt or damage the dielectric. Folding the braid back in lieu of soldering the connector does not provide a solid electrical connection.

Tinning the braid also helps when soldering through the holes,makes for a better contack and will last for years,especially when it is attached to an antenna 50 ft.or more high.73,Don,VO1XH

@Emelie99 You can get away without soldering them on very low power applications but it's best to just do it and save yourself a headache from swr issues later.
