To help celebrate its 15th Anniversary, The National Lottery has been searching over the summer for a unique viral video idea to celebrate the impact of 15 years of Lottery funding. The winning video has now been made into a viral video.

The winner, 24-year-old Jack Wake-Walker, a film student from London, developed his idea based around how the Lottery helps fund sports initiatives across the UK. His idea has now been produced into a viral film entitled Kiss Granny by an award-winning digital agency and will be released across the internet, to mark the Lotterys 15th Anniversary. The first National Lottery draw took place on 19 November 1994.

The Viral Nation competition gave people a chance to submit an idea to show how Lottery funding has had a positive impact on them or their community. The competition was launched in June by a video starring Danny Wallace, entitled How Not To Make a Viral, which became a hit on YouTube this summer. It was also promoted on the www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk website and across social networks including Facebook.

The entries were judged by a panel of eight media industry professionals including Anna Butler (Head of Marketing at Icon Films), Scott Button (CEO Viral Video Chart), BAFTA Award Winning film director Nick Hamm (Director of Godsend and The Hole) and Gail Egan (Executive Producer at Potboiler and a UK Film Council board member).

The competition aims to raise awareness of the £23 billion raised by Lottery players for Good Causes since the Lottery began, and its positive impact on people, places and communities all across the UK. The National Lottery was launched in 1994 and Lottery players raise £25 million each week for projects across the arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment.

Jack Wake-Walker, Viral Nation winner, said 'I feel really proud that an idea I created is going to be sent round the whole internet, for all to see. Its pretty surreal to see something I came up with representing such a well-known organisation, though I have to keep telling people Ive only won a competition, and not the actual Lottery!'
