Gustav Mahler (1860-1911)

Fünf Lieder nach Texten von Friedrich Rückert ( 1788-1866).
(Rückertlieder, 1901/1902)

"Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen!"/ I am lost to the world /Je suis perdu pour le monde.

Brigitte Fassbaender, mezzo-soprano.

Deutsches Symphonie - Orchester Berlin
Riccardo Chailly

In meinem Lieben, in meinem Lied!

  • she doesn't connect the same way Thomas Hampson does.. though she is one of my favorite voices

  • I am lost to the world with which I have wasted so much time. It may well believe that I am dead.

I don’t care if the world thinks me dead for I really am dead to it.

Away from the rat race I am at peace, alone in my heaven, my love and my song.

  • The contrast between this beautiful music and these terrible lyrics is impressive. A masterpiece.

  • @kwetsbaar1 Mine, as well. Fassbaender is such an exquisite artist, truly in a class by herself. Of course you know her "Octavian;" can anyone else come close?

  • My absolute favorite interpretation by Brigitte Fassbaender. She understands the words Rückert wrote, so incredible moving and without any disturbing pathos.

  • Grande musicalité,beau climat...
