It was during one of the after noon gatherings of Liszts master classes of summer 1884-85, that Emil Sauer heard Liszt play for the first time. One of the compositions that Liszt performed was the Perpetual Mobile of Weber. Since Friedheim was also a member of the master classes at this time, he, in all probability, heard the performance, also.
