Murdoch will figure prominently in any discussion about the decline of western civilisation, and the rise of corporate fascism. He has at least shown us how vulnerable an open society can be without the due vigilance of its people. We allowed this parasite to sap the strength of our news organisations that once helped protect us, using them to subvert and manipulate public opinion, and further corrupt our public institutions.

Ah the joys of the social democracy of the Nordic Model. I'm a "temporary expat" Norwegian living in Scotland and I have to say I miss the system at home. Huge soulless corporation and the virtual powerlessness of the individual is one of the reasons I can never settle down here for good!

NOTW making up 1% of his annual profits is the problem. No one conglomerate should have that much control over the 'free' press

I stand by what I said. Murdoch is not able to know what every one of the thousands of people who work for him is up to, NOTW accounted for less than 1% of News Corp's annual profits, and his mentality is 'acquire, acquire, acquire' so I imagine he was more focused on making inroads into China or something.
