Murdoch will figure prominently in any discussion about the decline of western civilisation, and the rise of corporate fascism. He has at least shown us how vulnerable an open society can be without the due vigilance of its people. We allowed this parasite to sap the strength of our news organisations that once helped protect us, using them to subvert and manipulate public opinion, and further corrupt our public institutions.

Well, what criterion are you using? Bild's average circulation surpasses that of the Sun (6th largest circulation in the world, largest in Europe), meaning there's a greater amount of German reading "dumb fucks" than English reading "dumb fucks", to borrow your phrase. The Nordic countries, especially Norway due to its oil reserves frequently top Germany, so it's not purely an economic decision. Based on your rabid nationalism, I'd assume you were a tabloid reader...

In fact, your youtube profile says you're from Germany, the country where "Bild" is published and which prominently features breasts on its front page on the wikipedia splash. I don't think it's a national problem, I think its an international problem resolved by education.
