In the first military coup in Central America in a quarter of a century the Honduran military has ousted the democratically-elected President Manuel Zelaya. Former Parliamentary speaker Roberto Micheletti who was sworn in as Zelayas replacement on Sunday has imposed a two-day nation-wide curfew. But hundreds of Zelaya supporters remain on the streets and shots were fired at protesters near the Presidential palace early Monday morning. We go to Honduras to speak with Honduran medical doctor and award-winning human rights activist, Dr. Juan Almendares and NYU professor of Professor of Latin American History, Greg Grandin.

  • How strange, the US keep all those countries of central an south america in extreme poverty...bus the army es have good an expensive weapons................

  • Just because someone is elected doesn't mean that the other branches of government are devoid of power. Or the constitiution no longer matters. The worst dictators in history were all elected. If someone had the courage to do what the Honduran people had the courage to do. Some of the greatest tragedies of history could have been avoided.

  • Don't listen to AndrewMann552. He's using Eva Golinger (Hugo Chavez's international PR figure), NarcoNews (fringe far-left publication, part of the American Left establishment), TeleSur (Venezuelan Chavista state media with funding from the Cuban government among other sources) as "reliable sources". Who do I trust, sources with an ideological bone to pick and sympathies towards Zelaya and other Chavez allies, or Hondurans, with regards to what goes on in Honduras. I say Hondurans.

  • @themailman43 via IMF

  • We the people of Latin America, we must expel the U.S. and the terrorist CIA from our soil. They are against democracy and freedom.

  • This man Dr. Juan Almendares, who calls himself a Human Rights Activist is nothing , but a leftist defending Zelaya and what he wanted to do about turning Honduras into another Venezuela and turning Manuel Zelaya into an eternal dictador like Hugo Chavez is now.

  • @benpandira Who says that the US keeps those countries in poverty. ? This is the stupidest thing i've ever heard. They keep themselves in poverty because of the corruption they have and their bad working habits..........Don't blame the US for everything bad that happens down there. This is just a communist strategy.

  • The army commanders who kidnapped zelaya are students of the americas!
