@PhloeFanSince2000 Nathan sucked but he was necessary. He helped Philip finally see that someone chose him. Before this he was always the second choice guy. Chloe chose Brady (and later Lucas), Belle chose Shawn, Stephanie wanted a different version of Philip not the real him. Melanie was the only one that accepted him flaws and all and CHOSE him over the other man. Sadly he didn't realize it and slept w/Chloe. But Melanie had to have feelings for Nathan, so there would be a CHOICE to be made.
