On Monday the 26th October 2009 one of the working members of the Class 15 Preservation society decided to have another attempt at blowing the original Westinghouse warning horns on D8233, this has not been attempted since the loco first arrived back in early 2006, anyway that time only one of the tone would work and there was a lot of leakage from the air pipes, this time the preperation was better, the horn pipes that pass through the cab floor were ground flush and a different air blower was used with the tip bound up with insulation tape to create a better seal, so with the air tool compresser pumped the horns were blown, many times with both high & low tones, this then is only the 2nd time that D8233 original (in situ) horns have been blown since it was withdrawn from traffic in 1969.
Absolutely dreadful!!
