A video of my last golf lesson from August of 2007. I'm fighting the problem of excess body movement which results in a swing that is not centered. While my teacher's comments were positive, this was because I had successfully rid myself of an atrocious hitch during my transition, but there's no power in this swing. I'm swinging a 6 iron, which I usually would expect to hit 165-170 yds.

  • I stumbled across this video while doing research. As a professional instructor who has given over 1,500 lessons last year, I would say you are not suffering from excess body movement. If anything it's quite the opposite... you are restricted.

You can stay centered and have freedom of motion. If you want to hit it further you're going to have to move!

Overall your swing is much much better than a 14 handicap. Good short game with that swing and you could be a 2 handicap right now.

  • @delpintoful Thanks for the comments. I agree that there is a restriction of the hips and shoulders. I'm working on a golf fitness routine to make me a better athlete and more fluid in my movements. Currently my thoracic mobility is next to nothing, and my hamstrings and calves are supertight. Please check out my more recent videos to see my swing as of late, I think it's actually worse now than in this 2007 video.

  • stance a bit wide for an iron, this could be prohibiting your hip (and therefore shoulder) rotation. lots of good positions tho

  • @cflannery1313 I've actually been narrowing my stance as of late, thanks for the comments.

  • Not much hip action on the downswing, losing some yards there.

  • I agree, my lead hip never stops moving so there's no transfer of power from the lower to upper body.

  • It looks like in you are only taking a 3/4 backswing, this would account for the lack of power, great for placement though. you should be hitting your 6 Iron about 180 yards

  • You're almost correct in the sense that the hips are not leading the downswing.... no need to worry upbout the upper body it's in excellent positions so it's not the shoulders.... and you're out of your mind if you think there is a sway in that swing.

  • Yes we worked with the KVest a bit, I'd like to do more with it. It helps isolate the movement of the torso but it's not a perfect device. For instance, you can bend a lot at the low back and it shows up as a good spine angle but cannot detect that the angle is not coming at the hip but instead from rounding the lumbar.

  • was that the k vest I saw in the corner of the screen? What do you think about it? any good?
