Fifty years ago, it didn't seem to matter too much what people did in other countries. But the world has shrunk in many ways; we are more interdependent, etc. In another hundred years, people might travel from country to country just as we now travel from state to state. There will need to be new, universal standards but hopefully this will allow more opportunities for people to literally find their place in the world.

@DesertRatDan AMEN!

@DesertRatDan Really? Even though we've seen troop surges in Afghanistan? Numbering about 130,000; not to mention 2010 saw the most casualties yet for soldiers. And of course don't forget the $30 billion of aid to the terrorist government Israel so they can kill more Palestinians....

Cat Stevens is a HYPOCRITE for supporting Iran's fatwa to kill author Salman Rushdie. And Cat did it ON FILM. Millions saw it. - HYPOCRITE.

@DesertRatDan Pullying out of Iraq doesnt mean peace. We're still at war with radical Islam and Global Jihad. The status of peace occurs when there is no war, not when their is no fighting. Their still fighting by the way.

It's good that you want peace, but I don't think it is realistic. We are apex predators. It is not in our nature to be peaceful. I think Justice is a better goal to work towards. As I understand your idea of "Peace"--global unity and the cessation of war--we will never have that. But it is sometimes possible to create Justice. Also, there is some irony here, in that Cat Stevens supported the death fatwa on Salman Rushdie... I admire his music, but no longer respect the man...

@MrFrank440 Come on, let's be fair here. We've got 100,000 troops out of Iraq, which was after all the war of choice that President Obama never supported, and he is sticking with his plan to start reducing forces in Afghanistan by mid year next year. Please give the man a chance to clean up the pretty big mess he was left with by the previous Administration, okay?

I hear you, but I also think that we can actually bring more peace to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and the surrounding region by marginalizing and subsequently rendering impotent the influence of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

This is a great testimony to the vision that we bought into on the other side of Election Day. Now that it's a year after this was posted, I have to admit that I'm shocked at how different the dream is when the staunch reality of the Oval Office hits home. I'm sure that President Obama will deliver. We just have to appreciate how peace is complicated and takes a lot more work and patience than just dreaming about it.

I was never under any illusion that peace would be easy. I still think that our best chance at peace is with President Obama at the helm.
