  • Lord Tolloller's reactions are a gem!

  • The chap playing Lord Mountararat, as mentioned before, is splendid - a wonderful production with these to go in, I sohlud have loved to see it.

  • Stating the obvious - this soloist can certainly sing!

  • I write as someone who has performed and listened to many G & S operattas (including many by D'Orly Carte).

This has to be one of the very best I have heard - excellent

  • this is by far the best member of this cast

  • harristos-thanks for the reply. I wasn't comparing, per se. It's just I've heard a lot of Gilbert and Sullivan, and all performers can learn from one another.

Donald Adams was a barrel of a man, with ability to resonate accordingly. "Work with the tools you have," is a good rule.

Before Donald Adams in D'Oyly Carte, was Daryll Fancourt. And we suffer from comparing old records with the more modern, so perhaps all comparisons are unfair.

Disparage the young guy's work? Not guilty.

  • Yes of course but Donald Adams must have been at least in his 40's by the time he recorded Iolanthe and had played in onstage for at least a decade. So its not really fair to compare with a 20 something student.

  • This guy is very good. But the 100 on the scale of 100 rendition of this song was done by the late Donald Adams (no -- not Maxwell Smart). Even on audio recording, you could hear the acting. As in the phrase "...they do not understand."

  • Class-I did this part a while ago and it's a great song. good to see it on youtube-do nothing in particular but do it rather well!

  • Yes agree great voice - I'd say a pro career in Opera is there if this guys wants to go there and keeps on training.
