Julian Tello Jr. plays York Bowen's Viola Concerto in C Minor for Viola and Orchestra" as part of the UTSA Concerto and Aria Competition Winner's Concert. This performance marks the Texas Premiere of the work and is the 3rd time the work has ever been performed in it's full symphonic form in the US.
Julian Tello is a freshman Viola Performance Major at UTSA and studies viola with Dr. Jennifer Cahill-Clark.
@lispectorando As far as I understand orchestras, there are only three viola concertos (only two which are allowed to be played by violists): Walton, Bartok (by the adventurous orchestras) and Mozart K. 364 (this is the concerto that is given to violinists who want to play viola and rarely, if ever, given to a full time violist). Perhaps we should do that with the violin? They can play Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Bach Double. I think it could work!

@BratscheBoy People can play more Bowen after everyone is tired of hearing the Walton being performed live. And we are a long way far from that, unfortunately.

This is a really fun concerto to play. I remember when I did it with orchestra (that was the second performance) and it deserves to be played and heard far more often.
