THAT WAS ME AT 3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@DrBarnes1 Well this is a really late reply but reading words IS reading. Wouldn't a child need to learn to read words first before he can read sentences? How can he read sentences without knowledge of the individual words beforehand? Words are the building blocks of sentences. This exercise is how he would gain the ability to fingerpoint to each word in a text.

my daughter was reading books at 3....never messed with flash cards though, she just started reading.

I am glad you shared this video. Most children are able to accomplish this if given the exposure. I also taught my children how to read early. Great job. I hope he does well in all that he sets out to do.

Cute but not a mericle or anything. My baby cousin did shit like that too

my autistic daughter was also reading before she was talking.

How many flashcard words did he know at this point?

This is actually hyperlexia. Able to read at younger age than an average child can.

aw, he is so cute! My son also has hyperlexia, and he started reading at 2. He is almost 7 now and though he has a very high reading level it is of course not as impressive anymore. He has been taken out of special services for the first time, and is going into a gifted program next year. These kids are so smart and they get so much better as they get older. you couldn't have convinced me 3 years ago that my son would be leading a normal life by now, but he is!

I know a boy who at 3 yrs 3 months old read "Antiques."
He was tested & found to be reading at a 3rd grade level.
On 4th birthday he could spell "Brachiosaurus."
People don't seem to realize that if parents followed, "The Turnley Reading System: based on Sonsils" by Francis R. Turnley all 3 yr olds could learn to read before 4 yrs old.
Reading words is not reading. Reading is comprehending. Can he read a favorite story and fingerpoint to each word in a text?

Yes he could and did. This was done a while ago. In kindergarten he was diagramming sentences. He's in third grade now where he is reading on a seventh grade level. He's doing all right in math, too. Drilling him with flash cards gave him the leg up he needed.
