My Ball Python Hank, eats his 1st meal after a 10 month fast

Hank Eating the second X-breeder of his first meal after a 10 month fast. This was the first time he had eaten since i got him 10 months before! I got him in October of 2006 and this video was taken in July of 2007

such a beautiful snake,im getting one pretty soon and i cant wait.And you prob. already know this but make sure you handle with him alot because if you dont it will get mean.and when you feed it, feed it in a seprate box,container,etc. because if you feed it in the cage and stick your hand in theri to pick it up,it might think its food and bite. i hope these tips help =]

lol, well thanks for the "tips". It depends on the snake, but ball pythons in general dont really "get mean" when you dont handle them. That's more characteristic of Boas. oh, And I've been feeding hank in his enclosure for a year and a half and he's never ever mistaken my hand for food. Its all about building trust with your snake. Just be sure you dont put your hands in his cage after handling a rodent, other than that youre fine. Feeding in separate containers is not necessary for everyone.

10 month fast ey? Doesnt look too bad at all! :D Mine didnt eat for 4 but started losing wieght so i tempted him to eat again with live. They are the most lovely snakes :P

Thanks. If your snake ever refuses to eat again, you can do this cool trick i learned recently when Hank started fasting again. Take your feeder mouse or rat & put him in a small container or box with a gerbil and a handful of soiled gerbil bedding. Leave them together in the box with the nasty bedding for several hours. Your mouse/rat will come out smelling very "gerbilly" He should take it immediately. It worked like a charm for me. If it doesnt work, try it again with a colored mouse or rat.
