The gameplay was good, but it was not the reason I played Half Life 2 and so on. It was the story I was really in to.

Seems that way:
Both have same hair style
Same Color eyes
Both wear Glasses
Gman is a bit 'on edge'
Same body shape
Freeman never talks, but G-Man does.

G-Man = Government man, I think :)

G-Man = Government man, at the end of Half Life 1 as G-Man "asked Gordon if he wanted to work for him, since then he has hold an eye on Gordon in hl2. So I think that Gordon is working for him and G-Man works for the government. It sounds well more credible. That G-man works for the government :)

a G-man was the old name for a federal agent. like FBI or CIA. this 'gman' seems to be an agent of some higher authority. and seems to be acting on their behalf
