The Presbytery of Great Rivers has brought the Parable of the Talents out of the pages of the Bible and into the lives of our churches. Continuing the theme of "Bringing hope in the name of Jesus Christ," we have given every church in the Presbytery $100 and asked them to use that money in a way that brings hope to people's lives in the name of Jesus Christ. The challenge, like that of the parable, is to use the $100 so that it becomes more than just $100. Through creative thinking, discernment, and study we hope each church uses the money so that the returns are far greater than a mere $100 dollar bill. Perhaps the return is profound gratefulness, or newfound hope, or the fun and laughter of children. The possibilities are endless and we believe the churches of our Presbytery will do some amazing things with this money. We have asked each church to use the money within their community and not simply just give to a preexisting charity and requested each session study the Parable of the Talents using a Bible Study created by the Presbytery's Visioning Council. At the November Presbytery Assembly meeting we will have a special Talents Fair to share how each church used the $100 gift and brought hope in the name of Jesus Christ.
