I have an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghz is that a quad core or is it the same thing as the AMD Phenom II?

The Core 2 Quads are dual cores that are hyperthreaded as well...The Core i7 are the only processors that are true quad cores.

No the core 2 Quads are two core 2 duo processors into 1 package ... logical cores wil give you better performance then mear hyperthreading will look it up on the intel website if you must :P
