Finally got four baby girls for the degu cage! Nearly three months of waiting meant that we kept adding more and more to the home-made cage! This is one goo that loved the see-saw. It kept going round for another go, but like a child has now lost interest and wants a Wii for Christmas... The see-saw is carefully designed to have no scissoring or tail-trap points! They also like sliding down the slope at the back, but when I appear with the camera, they stop :-/

  • @eli76ful We spent literally months trying to decide between ferrets and degus!

I talked with owners and visited the local ferret sanctuary.

Degu poo is dry like rice, and their wee is like moist salt; ferret poo is like toothpaste: harder to clean. Degus only eat hay, though one did bite right through our boy's thumb for no reason when new! But in the end, the main factor was that Degu hair doesn't show up on black clothes/furniture! I spent ages picking ferret hairs out of my work coat!

  • I like the degu house, quite spacious and lots to do. I used to keep ferrets and luckily we had lots of outdoor sheds for them to play around in, we used to put drain pipes in which they love to run in and out of and big heaps of sand which were small enough for us to build a kind of warren inside for them. They are the coolest pets, they will litteraly jump around you and play with you making their cute little ferret noises. I reckon you could construct some great ferret houses.

  • @jtchivers The do love the see-saw: they sleep in it in a bunch during the day and when they're hyperactive, deliberately jump on the scary end to catapult each other. Of course, they stop as soon as I come back with a camera :-/

Next is a 'piano'... We have an Archimedes screw from an old photocopier which should dispense degu nuggets when the press the correct note. Once they've learned the first note, they'll have to press the first two notes etc.

  • You built a version of The Incredible Machine for rodenty things! Time to put some electric gizmos in there and some reward-based gadgets!

  • @tyhellboy3114 It's strange but they love it! One even sleeps on it, right at the pivot point - I have no idea why. It's gotta feel wobbly for sleeping, but when one of the others tips up the see-saw the sleeping one must have a heart attack! I'm trying to get better video, but it's so dark at this time of year and if I turn on the light, they all stop what theyr'e doing and come to see me :-/

  • lol not to sure about the see-saw very nice
