Walking gait is still a bit spotty, very much so a work in progress. These type of things take a long time to dial in and I'm only working on this in my spare time.

I'm also demonstrating the ability to pan/tilt on the torso while walking, which makes it even more unstable.

  • Has anyone realized that humans fall into walking or running as our brain moves our limbs to compensate with balance? Why does it always seem that robots move there limbs to push or pull them forward primarily instead of falling in a forward motion and using their limbs to stay balanced over any terrain?

  • You bring up an excellent point, and the more advanced humanoid research is trying to advance exactly that. To replicate a human like walking gait in a machine is incredibly difficult, check into ZMP or Zero Moment Point research, which addresses this.

In contrast, what you see here is only about 10 hours of work into programming the walking gait, and without any IMU balance integration. This was a 'work in progress' video I didn't expect to get posted on Engadget... LOL

  • that's amazing!!! some people make robots and some people create a virus so robots act to be a villain...so in 2020 laptop reach the human brain and next is humanoid robots...that's interested and more interested in 2030 that robots and humans war...PEACE

  • That's amazing!!!

  • Hi. Aprox by the year 2020 a laptop will reach the human brain potential for processing data which means that there is a huge market waiting for hundreds of billions dollars to be sold or invested in humanoid robots and intelligent systems. It is the beginning of the bigger industry in human history. Search on Google luisbeck007 you will find the most complete humanoid robot list in the World, good information and interesting issues.

  • Nice robot. It has good balance and I'm digging the Cylon-esque head. It's so refreshing to see a video in the science & technology section that is not about some stupid mobile phone.

  • tan bacano.... yo quiero uno, donde los venden?

  • Outstanding!

  • wow!!!!!!!!

  • That thing is a freakin cylon, look at its head
