The rest of the world was 300 as well, but at the time Japanese manufacturers had a gentlemen's agreement that stated they wouldn't sell a car over 280PS (276hp). Many Japanese cars (supra, Z, 3000GT VR4, etc) made well beyond this, but their spec sheets all said "280PS" to adhere to their unwritten agreement.
