The first time I heard this song it was by the Wilburn Brothers in the late 60's. I have it by them and Billy Vera, Joe Simon, Cher, Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn with Conway Twitty and two versions by Ann Peebles. I love this version by Ollie. What a great voice and such a laid back arrangement.

I certainly didn't know the Wilburn Brothers did this, I've been enjoying their old shows on The Rural Channel, SKY 279 here in the UK. This is really beautiful! what a superb band! and you ain't gonna get a better singer than Ollie plus the harmony is awesome. I had the great pleasure to gig with Debbie Allen in Lowestoft a few years back at a time when she was recovering from illness and it was so good to see her playing again and looking so well.....This vid shows beyond doubt that the top country bands don't always come from the states....

Whenever I want to listen to some great warm true country music musicians I watch this video. Ollie you do have a powerfully great voice just perfect for the ballads. I first heard this song by Ira Allen at the Riverside Inn in Tukwila Washington in about 1976. The Ira Allen show was the house band.

Finally someone else remembers that Vern Gosdin sang this song. That is the version that I remember best. Ollie sounds a lot like Vern. I enjoy this post a lot.

I am proud to say that Ira is a friend of mine. I met him in 2005 when I played a show in Maine with him. He did this song, The Cabin Door, Grampa Jack, and a whole bunch more! I keep in touch with him, see him about once a year when he is up here. Ira is the best...and this guy IS the closest to Ira that I have heard.
