Same sound effects, different music.

True for the most part; Doom 64 did have new music, but some of the melodies are also the same as those in PSX Doom. The reduced samples give an overall 'dumbed down' (for want of a better term) sound to said melodies, but the similarity is noticeable. Examples for easiest comparisons are the tracks used on Altar of Pain/Mt. Erebus, and Watch Your Step/Plant.

Yeah, but that's like saying that rap songs that use samples from old songs are the same. ;) The songs may have some similarities, but they're far different IMHO, especially in overall style. The PSX version's music is more structured, the N64's version is more random, in an attempt to be creepier. And Aubrey Hodges accomplished that task in Doom 64 admirably. The music still gives me goosebumps with some tracks. The PSX version does not (though I like the music better overall).
