The Back mine is a unique place. This old mining site is in fact a hollow hill. The vault is still in place, openings allow the light. It is supported by four pillars. Only three of these pillars are visible the surface, the fourth is completely submerged and its highest portion is 10 meters under the surface. With its constantly cold water and an average visibility, the mine is not the best place in the world to dive but the site on its own is worth the visit.
What were they mining there? Great colors. Nobody knows :-(

@Vamp1963 I was told by a man who used to work the mine that they extracted a mineral called "Dental Spark". According to him, the mine was the property of Johnson & Johnson who used it to make dentures and prosthetic teeth.

Interesting video. I dove this site back in the late 1980's - early 1990's with some of Canada's pioneer Cave Divers. Back then the water was much clearer than it appears in your vid. And there was no fencing installed. It was our group (led by John Reekie) that installed that sign you found. Hope it has done it's job.

The water was much clearer back then. Cottages have been buit in they area in I think this may account for the loss of visibility. Your sign and the very low visibility past it seem to keep most divers away from the deeper area and hopefully will keep on doing so.
Thanks for your comment.
