This is a short documentary of our trek for ten days into the Thar Desert from Jaisalmer, an ancient city in Rajasthan, India. With just three camels; Papu, Lalu, and Babaloo and our trusted guide Rhman, we set out with all the food and water necessary for the foray. We trekked about 20 km per day going 7 to 8 hours on camel back. We slept on top of the dunes at night and battled dung beetles and the occasional snake. The people of the desert are incredibly hospitable and friendly and we had some amazing interactions. We got to know our camels intimately as well as our guide a hard working man who is passionate about life.

  • what was your final destination? jaisalmer to where?

  • @grahammoney It was a loop we left Jasialmer and did a big circle in the desert and came back to Jaisalmer. It is possible to trek to other cities but it takes much longer.

  • I bet you guys were bored out of your skulls after this 10 day safari? Your backsides must have been red raw when you finished.

  • Not at all on either count. It was a very interesting trip and we were very sad to leave. Every day was unique. After two days we became accustomed to the camels and had no trouble riding them.

  • What kind of camera do you use to record yourself? I like the quality for some reason haha. Or is it your lighting? anyways, fun video!

  • It's a Canon Mini DV recorder that only records standard definition. It did well, but we are upgrading soon. Thanks for the comment.

  • My girlfriend and I went on a three day and two night safari with Rhaman, too. That guy was awesome and a really talented camel man. We love him!!!!! and cant wait to visit again for a longer safari. The most "boring" times consist of the most gorgeous views and thoughts of ancient cultures that have been riding camels for centuries. The desert people are very kind with fun humor. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 stars!

  • no like

  • Today is Xmas - and thank you for sharing your experience. Were you upset or humbled by the harsh condition? Could you live in those conditions? What you say about the people? I hope you had a great time and enjoyment. Did you go from Pakistan or Rajasthan in India?

  • On my trip on the Thar the camel herder did not raise my feet into a jockey position for the first half of the ride. then the "elder" came by and instructed him to put my feet up with bent knees. THAT was more comfortable but my butt bled the next day from the wrong riding position. Sunset on the Thar desert is truly unbelievable.

  • My girlfriend and I went on a safari in December ... we had 2 camels - Ganguly and Papu ... and Papu groaned a lot when the packs were put on him .....

Hmmm... I am pretty certain that is him in your video

Nice documentary. I enjoyed watching it

  • Mad accolades for opting for the 10 day safari out of Jaisalmer, my fiance and I only did the 3 day, and I could barely walk afterward. I spent those two nights though battling those dung beetles too! I attempted many defenses but they kept coming...
