Terms of Endearment is a 1983 romantic comedy-drama film adapted by James L. Brooks from the novel by Larry McMurtry.
Aurora (Shirley MacLaine) and Emma Greenway Horton (Debra Winger) are mother and daughter searching for love. Beginning with Emma's marriage, Aurora reveals how difficult and caring she can be. The film centers around several years as they both find their reasons for going on living and finding joy. Aurora finds Garrett Breedlove (Jack Nicholson), the retired astronaut next door. The relationship between Emma and Aurora comes full circle when Emma is diagnosed with cancer that soon becomes terminal. At film's end, they all show different ways of expressing love.

Immer auf Würde und Ehre achtend, hat die Witwe seit dem Verlust von Emmas Vater mehrere Heiratsanträge zurückgewiesen, um sich ihrer Tochter zu widmen.
Als Emma ein eigenes Leben führen will und gegen den Willen ihrer Mutter den jungen Dozenten Flap, den Aurora hasst, heiratet, ist die Witwe plötzlich alleine. Das Paar zieht in eine andere Stadt, Emma bringt drei Kinder zur Welt, und Aurora ist über ihre Großmutterrolle gar nicht glücklich.
Sie lässt sich auf eine Affäre mit ihrem Nachbarn und Freund Garrett ein. Der ehemalige Astronaut und Säufer hilft Aurora, ihre veralteten Ansichten aufzugeben und zu ihren Gefühlen zu stehen. Während Aurora ihr Glück genießt, trennt sich Emma von ihrem untreuen Ehemann und kehrt mit den Kindern zu ihrer Mutter zurück. Aurora nimmt ihre Tochter und die Enkelkinder bei sich auf, doch Emma erkrankt an Krebs und stirbt.
Shirley MacLaine (born April 24, 1934) is an American film and theater actress, dancer, activist, and author, well-known for her beliefs in new age spirituality and reincarnation. She has written a large number of autobiographical works, many dealing with her spiritual beliefs as well as her Hollywood career.
John Joseph "Jack" Nicholson (born April 22, 1937) is an American actor, director, and producer. He is internationally renowned for his often dark-themed portrayals of neurotic characters.

He has won seven Golden Globe Awards, and received a Kennedy Center Honor in 2001. In 1994, he became one of the youngest actors to be awarded the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award.

This movie is one of my collections. a very touching movie! Emma is a lovely girl, her mom is , too! But why she gets cancer ?!.... I asked myself while I was watching it. yet, this music is so nice!
