um, who are the 4 people who dislike this? what's wrong with you.....

The coloratura is a given– as in any Mozart heroine. Sumi Jo is just near-perfect in everything! Even in baroque art songs (see "La Promessa") she seems to understand what the composer, what the song expects & demands from a performer. However, for Königin der nacht, I feel that it is more suited to a bigger, richer, & darker voice, a dramatic soprano. Edda Moser cannot be approached in this role. Dessay was too puny, Damrau histrionic & barely compensates with the acting– in which she good!

Usually, I like Dessay, but I dislike her queen of the night...Sumi s much sweeter in tone, with fabulous coloratura and nice piani
I like her interpretation aswell - listen to the passaggio in the first "bösewicht"!!!!

This is gorgeous, perfect, including the impeccable German diction! Sumi Jo is one of a very few contemporary artists whose superb technique and feeling for the music recalls the great sopranos of earlier generations.

Wow...there's definitely a richness that the modern instruments give to the music that the period instruments don't...but the period instruments have a different sound that we're not used to, and it's fascinating. Sumi Jo is fantastic!!
