You sneaky git! For a moment I thought one your subscribers (fans!) had died or something! :-)
But, yeah, it seems like Koreans as well as Japanese believe in the strangest things.

According to Chinese Medicine, If a fan is directed very close to your face or small closed space all night, it could cause "wind stroke" for elders or people who are sick or weak. I guess many people in Korea either don't know this and just think having a fan on for long time is dangerous period or don't know how to explain to foreigners. And it is not a Korean thing, it is Asian thing, Asians who believe in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Let me guess . How this "urban legend" started
*mom* "son, turn off the fan when you leave the room and don't close your door while its on , or when your alseep "
*kid* why
*mom* "because you will die if you leave it on when yur not in need of it"
*kid* "waaaaaaah!"
(One week later)
*dad* "honey , have you noticed the electricity bill has dropped "
*mom* "lol"

Its so fake. Me and my sister and my uncle share a room and leave the fan on every night with everything in our room shut and none of us have died.

I think every culture believes in some sort of health-related urban legend or old wives' tale that is just ridiculous. For example, my parents, who are from Mexico, insist that walking around in bare feet makes you sick. Even here in the US, people still believe that you catch a cold simply by being cold. Some beliefs just die very hard, it seems.

Lol, so that's why my Korean roomate kept turning the fan off in the middle of freaking summer!
I just asked my friend from Korea and he was totally serious :O He mentioned that people die every year from it!

many north americans have ceiling fans and many of those same people never turn them off, ever.

yep....I suppose the only way that ceiling fan could kill you would be if it fell on you!
