The Portugues Dam will soon be constructed near the City of Ponce, Puerto Rico, along the Portugues River. The project was designed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (Florida). It is a special Civil Engineering structure because it will be the first Arch-type dam constructed in United States and its territories utilizing Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) . The work will include construction of a 220-feet (67 meters) high single center thick arch dam with a crest length of 1,230 feet (375 meters) and will require approximately 367,000 cubic yards (280,592 cubic meters) of RCC.
