Samuel James @ the Atlantic Blues Fest Halifax 2008

I had meant to upload this back after I recorded it, but had some pc issues and forgot I had even recorded it, until recently and figured better late than never :)

It was taken from the Atlantic Blues and Beyond Festival held here in Halifax back in 2008. The festival was great musically, but I doubt they were happy with the turnout, Last minute a few acts had to be cut and what once was meant to have multiple stages, got cut down to one concert stage and a weird lobby stage where acts would play during the others on the concert stage. Unfortunate, because there were a good amount of talent playing this lobby "stage" that really went unnoticed aside from the few dozen at most fans that took it in.

One of these acts was Samuel James, a guy I had not heard of before I saw him announced for the festival, I checked out his bio etc.. and knew I wanted to check him out. I was glad I did. But felt bad for the guy, who had come all this way to play for maybe 40 people. We got his CD after the show and have since got his new CD and if you're a blues fan do yourself a favor and pick them up, His style is refreshing, very raw, well played smartly written tunes and a real old school, unpolished style. One highlight no doubt for the fans who watched & perhaps Samuel himself was when in the back drop of the window a train started to slowly chug by! What a great thing to happen when this cat is playing, a perfect setting to a old blues tune. Priceless! Had to record it!

I recorded what I could before my cam died....but cool to see none the less.

I hope despite the festivals shortcomings, Samuel James at some point returns to play a show in Halifax!

Hey thanks for posting this..I worked this festival as a volunteer and dispite the changes in the venue this was one of the best festavals I have been to and Samual was great and I even seen you video this! andeven had a chance to talk with him and Rosa his girlfriend in the parking lot for 15-20 minutes....also been hearing him a lot lately on XM 74 BB Kings BluesHighway!

Way to go Samual..come on back to Halifax...
