Hey thanks for the response. I would love to take it out into the surf because I live in Santa Cruz California and we have plenty of that and unfortunately no rivers. Yet, I'm afraid of being seperated from the boat. Do you use any leash? And have you been thrown from the boat before and how did you handle that. Thanx...Laurie!

First a regular board doesn't weigh less than 5 pounds. I've never seen a backpacker toting a surfboard:-) Great video, I was just wondering if you were using the spray skirt when you were surfing. If so, do you prefer with or without. I have heard that the skirt doesn't stand up well to breaking surf and it's a quick way to ruin one. So I was wondering what your take on it is. I just got a yukon yak and haven't tried it in waves yet. Thanx! Any other opinions would great!
Warmly...Laurie

Yep we use the spray skirt to stop the raft getting swamped on the way out. Sometimes we find that it comes undone but it hasn't done any damage to it yet. I think that the most likely possibility of it being ruined is if you get thrown out and lose the boat. They tend to get bashed around a bit on the way back to the beach. You should definitely take yours to the surf, especially if you are some distance away from good whitewater.
