FreeBSD is nice. I just dont like the community. On the official FreeBSD forum you get banned if you write "i" and not "I" or "im" and not "I'm". They also hate 'noob' quesions and are impatient. And this "My BSD is much better then your Linux" chitchat is anoying. If you look there you cannot talk with these guys. BSD is the best, everything else crap (and Linux is the biggest crap). Sry but nobody needs a community like this.

FREEBSD just chooses the best hardware available. No crappy HW on BSD !

Very clear explaination. Thanks alot.

@ShaneHm2 Absolutely false! FreeBSD is a direct descendant of Unix and once contained original ATT Unix code. Linux looked at MINIX, an educational operating system, for its inspiration and is derived from that.

@Revollti - FreeBSD users use FreeBSD because they love BSD. They don't hate Linux. Linux users love Linux because they hate Windows. FreeBSD users tend to be professionals and serious hobbyists. I've never found that forum unhelpful to anyone.

I'd say Linux and FreeBSD are fairly similar performance-wise. The reasons I prefer FreeBSD are documentation (read the handbook, and the man pages are pretty good in comparison to most open source software), organised (man hier), major changes are properly engineered, in fact the whole project has a much more designed feel about it, ZFS!, and more. The committers tend to be older than linux developers, more software engineers and not so many hackers. It is a more mature culture.

Great video, I am a Linux user and have been toying with the idea of trying FreeBSD. I enjoy it on Virtual, I just haven't made the full commitment yet, and nope, I'm not a dual booter, when I run a system I like to give it my all. Thanks again!

@BlackwaterOpsDotCom They should make "Beginners Help" category then the ones with experience can help if they choose so. It's sad if they haven't thought of that yet :P
i noticed this dude is running windows

@slimgardener Yes because it is a desktop. and the conversation is about Servers. You know the big things locked in cages that make the internet go. If you want to talk about how great linux is as a desktop, have at it, there is a video on that too. so you can troll in the right place...

@BlackwaterOpsDotCom don't take my comment personally, I did a search for FreeBSD and your link popped up first. It's a wonder why you are talking about it but running a different OS? Miss your cornflakes this morning?

@slimgardener Because Free BSD is a Server, and while you can run it as a desktop the only reason to do so is because you do dev that is going to be deployed to FreeBSD.

@BlackwaterOpsDotCom bullshit my friend. FreeBSD is both a server, and a desktop operating system. and it's not called "Free BSD" (FreeBSD instead).
your evaluation sucks. you'd better perform a benchmark and then we might get to talk.

@securezone Ok. I just ran FreeBSD vs Windows
Render test in Maya. PC 24s FreeBSD DNF
Bicubic Resize and Save to PNG in Adobe CS5 Photoshop PC 8s FreeBSD DNF
Frame Rate Test Duke Nukem Forever PC 85 FPS FreeBSD DNF :-)
Benchmark complete... Wow FreeBSD didn't do so well.
That's ok it does great serving PHP pages.
