Sympathetic as I am to the opposition to coastguard centralisation, basing an argument on communication redundancy with today's facilities doesn't standup. There are stronger arguments based on the loss of local knowledge that are likely to hold more sway.

Try living in shetland you will find todays technology does not stand up to the weather we had several days last year where we lost communications and internet access. One of the main reasons for siting the main station in Aberdeen is that they don't trust the links between Stornaway and shetland
