The romulans had to know that ship was a bit undergunned for the mission it was on. The plasma torpedo is a powerful weapon but, it's use made the B.O.P vulnerable. It had no disruptors to back up the main armament. The Enterprise had little trouble outgunning that ship.

I like that some soldiers in the Romulan crew have helmets. As for the episode, it must have been probably one of the most impressive space battles put to screen up until then.

This is the first "Star Trek" (TOS) episode I ever saw -- our family was stationed overseas when the show premiered in1966, and all we kids heard about from new kids just arriving from stateside was how cool "Star Trek" was. I totally imprinted on the show with this episode (finally seen during the summer 1967). The cat-and-mouse interplay between Kirk and the Romulan commander was brilliant. It's still the gold standard episode for me, hard to beat on almost every level.

Is it just me or does the Romulan commander look like the actor who played Spock's father in TNG?

This episode and the two part "Menagerie" consumed most of the meager budget of the show's first season.

Great episode, tackles bigotry. Cool to see a original preview as it would have looked on TV so long ago.
