With all due respect, if mainstream reenactors (not just the 7th S.C.) actually lived the entire weekend as Civil War soldiers, there wouldn't be time or energy for such "surreal stuff". But if everyone slacks off as soon as the public goes home, then what else are they going to do? Find "creative" ways not to go stir crazy with boredom.

I wouldn't really say that people get bored so much as creative. Surreal stuff like this tends to happen in the evening for no apparent reason.
