This is me playing the first level of the original PC shareware version of Descent. It was the first 3D action shooter with moving around in any axis.

  • They need to put this on XBLA.

  • Man, I loved playing this game when I was a kid... Awesomeness. The music gave a really eerie feeling to the levels.

  • holy crap does this bring back memories

  • @illjutsu There are remakes. I will be doing a let's play of this game soon. It looks much better than this and runs smoother.

  • I played this game for hours. Someone has to do a remake. It was so much fun.

  • @velocityreptile Of course you can - at least when using one of the modernized open source versions of the game.

For reference, 4862 are my directional/pitch keys obviously, 13 are slide horizontal, +/enter are slide vertical, and 79 are for banking, with thumb on Numpad Insert for bombs. Left hand on ASD keys with pinkie finger on LShift, D for Primary Fire, S for accel, A for reverse and shift for Secondary (F for Flares).

This setup's worked for me for years and due to the keys used you can easy fire + move in multiple axes. Mouse is obviously still preferable to this, but it works.

That's not an excuse for not being able to accelerate/reverse while sliding in at least one direction on a keyboard. Yes, the default controls for Descent were intended for a mouse and were crap for keyboard play, but I've got it setup so I can play using only a keyboard and I'm capable of movement in multiple axes at once. Trichording is obviously a bit too tricky without a mouse, but using the numpad is the way to go when using just a keyboard.

  • I remember getting horribly lost.

  • @20110102 That explains it. Thx :D

lol, theyre mining facilites to start with.

The mining bots have been infected with a virus causing them to turn against their human controllers and killing them.

Later on though you do get to more military installations.

Read the intro to missions to find out.

  • This game was so wierd, it didn't make any sense what so ever.

What kind of place would have like a bunker with a bunch of spaceships flying around in it?
