The reason why Universal Studios turned down Star Wars is because Glen Larson already had Battlestar Galactica created but it was not released.

It's funny to think about the fact that despite the fact that his films have made hundreds of millions of dollars, George Lucas is technically an independent filmmaker. Ever since Empire, he's funded his own films and done basically everything on his own, free of studio control.

no way ep1-6 finished at the same time. he started to write ep1 at 1997 or so... and I even doubt he wrote ep4-6 at the same time. I think it is just a myth he likes to tell. hell he even fooled Spielberg that he has all 3 Indy films written back then.

Episode 4 - 2 Hour Movie
Episode 5 - 2 Hour Movie = 6 hours
Episode 6 - 2 Hour Movie

his original intentions for star wars was to have A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi all in one movie. But there was no way 20thFox would fund it.

@dreezaayy That's not entirely accurate. He went through a whole bunch of drafts for the first film and his early drafts had too much. So he began cutting and changing things around. The early drafts were nothing like teh original film.

However some of the cut scenes did find their way to the later films, but a story arc of teh rebellion v empire or Luke hadn't been fleshed out.

When he says that he's sort of simplifying it.

He had developed the back story for 1 - 3 but he hadn't written a script for it.

I find it fascinating how individuals manage to successfully merge an occupation with the intent to entertain. Listening to Lucas regale his early years in Hollywood, you become so engrossed with the politics of the film world that you forget about the film itself.
