I love that music... It's just amazing. Pure 8 & 16 bit spirit...

@kajompa I think they use all three channels for the sound at the start then split it for one bass one drum and one lead
-
Oooh I remember Discovery Xtra, Carrier Command, Nighthunter, Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters and the hardest game ever called Satan!
-
@kajompa Yeah, no idea why they did two versions. Odd.

Yeah I remember this coming in my STE Discovery Xtra pack in 1992. Definitely had some slick music before the chip tune kicked in. :)

For example flash games, some of the concepts are mad! I played a lot of indie adventure games over the last few years and I can safely say since the days of my Amiga, these were some of the best. Excluding Broken Sword, at the time that was a retro new game! You guys should look into the Dingoo A320 or a bit more on the pricey side, a GP2X Wiz.

@deepblue69uk Indie games still continue to wow me in terms of actual ingenuity and originality displayed by much of the now reffered to old school. I like many others am very fed up with buying commercial games and waiting six months before a patch is released to make the game half playable......only to find the game is complete arse on the fun part. Although somewhat of a grey area, the emulation scene is going strong, especially with the new handheld emus being released this year.

@HANGINGWANG Notice that the increasingly popular indie gaming scene takes alot of cues from the 8bit and 16bit era. I believe they do this because they try to focus on gameplay rather than super dupa graphics. From the 70s to the early 90s, the graphic limitations of hardware at the time meant that in order for a game to be really successful, it HAD to have good gameplay or it fell flat on its face. It is nice to see that PC gaming is beginning to relive that golden age.

@deepblue69uk True, well all this was too much for me so I decided to give this and Escape from the planet of the Robot Monsters a bit of a play. Needless to say after being tarnished by modern gaming, I have found the older classics to be harder than I recall. Aah, these were the days one would sweat over a game. I know my 24 pounds per game would last a good few months. In the case of 9 Lives, to this day. As I am yet to complete this game.
Thanks for posting this: a shot of pure nostalgia for me. Cheers.
