Only after years of Continental travel, did I find this tiny island on my doorstep.I was born and bred in Scotland, but until 2003 I never realised how beautiful my own country could be. Now,I visit Iona once or twice a year for at least a week at a time. It is beautiful, interesting & offers such tranquillity no matter what time of year one visits. I hope viewers understand & share what I mean from this video

  • Thanks so much for letting me know about the music.. Is the first piece (the monks chanting) also on Hilary's album?

I was on Iona for two weeks - and just came back.. I gave it your love :-) Saw one of the most outstanding sunrises of my life whilst on the White Strand... the sheen of the water on the ebbing tide made the whole strand change colour in every moment..

..But i know you know all of this.. :-)

Iona changes me every time I go.. My soul grows there like a wildflower.

    Blessings

  • Hi beloved963,

Yes the track is the first one called "Sunrise" which Hilary Rushmer wrote, Many of the tracks are her own compositions. The whole CD is great. The abbey stocks a wealth of good trad. Celtic music CDs. Sunrises at this time of year are stunning but I have never had the vantage point you experienced. I saw an incredible sunset one evening from the ketch chartered from Alternative Boat Trips.I videod a blood red sunset from the north end waters -unforgettable:-)

    Thanks again

  • many thanks from one Iona lover to another. I"m another Scot and I also go at least twice a year! I would love to know what the music is - its beautiful...

  • Hi beloved963, Thank you for your kind comments. It is a bit of an addictive island? Try it once & then you're hooked forever:-)) The music is from a CD I bought on Iona called "Celtic Sunrise & is the first track called "Sunrise" I used for the video. The CD is by Hilary Rushmer who is a talented musician & I can recommmend it as it refreshes the memories of holidays on Iona & other Western Scottish Islands

    Thanks again for your comments.

May you enjoy many more holidays on Iona.

  • Hi Timestep7,

Thank you for your kind comment on my video. I thoroughly agree with you on "actually needing to experience it" No video or photograph can capture the "soul" of this island. Often, I am asked by artists if they can use my photos for to paint from and seem puzzled when I refuse. I believe you have to see it for yourself before you can bring it to life on canvas. Well I am soon off to see it again in 3 weeks - Can hardly wait:-)) Thank you again, Best wishes.

  • Wonderful you have really caught it, the light the feel the mood, the magical Island second only to Skye in my humble opinion..I must go back again . wonderful thank you.

  • I am sorry you waited so long for my reply. I try to thank everyone who is courteous enough to leave a comment and apologise to you and anyone who gets a bit of a wait for a response. Skye is wonderful too and I am sure that many of the western islands have such comparable beauty, but I am hooked on Iona. I do hope you get a chance to go back to Iona - Good Luck & Thank you .

  • May I ask what is the Gregorian chant in the video? Who is performing it?

  • Where humans haven't wreaked havoc, the world is still such a beautiful place!

  • Tomorrow Qatar 3 weeks in the very opposite possible!

That was just a great video. can you remind me of the music, I should know it. Brings back memories of my Granny being hauled up out of the boat from Port Appin onto the bigger boat, and MOST concerned if her petticoats would be seen! The pebbles are like jewels, Oh it is so long since I was there. The meadow of the lapwings, the spouting cave and all the wonderful name for places I'm also another Scot, and lived in Applecross before.

    Life

  • Only those who have set foot on this magical isle can understand its unique atmosphere. This is a lovely creation, but you need to actually go there.
