Well, I decided to use Guitar Rig 3 to model another useful tone trying to get something similar to Joe Satriani's one. To make it, I have used the theme "Ten Words" because I like it a lot and "Crowd Chant" because you can hear the guitar tone very clear there.
So, here you have a "Ten Words" cover. It's a relative easy one from Joe, but a beautiful one also.
Please, hear it in stereo using the link above because in mono is just a piece of junk and the tone doesn't shine as in stereo.
In the Guitar Rig 3 I find that the "Plexi" amp (Vintage Marshall emulation) is the best sound possible with the rest of things used, but the "Instant Gratifier" (kind of Mesa Boogie) gives a closer sound to Satch's one. I will try to upload a video explaining how I use Guitar Rig 3 with Cubase things to model my guitar tones, but for now here you are the setup (in order):
- Distortion: Volume(5), Tone(2.5), Distortion(10).
- Instant Gratifier Head: Mode buttons(Modern), Master(5), Gain(6), Bass(1.31), Mid(5), Treble(8.29), Presence(8.29).
- Chorus+Flanger: Speed(0.20Hz), Intensity(1), Width(0), Mode(Chorus).
- Cabinets & mics: Gratifier 4x12, Mic Pos "Off Axis", Mic "Dynamic 57" and all the knobs to the right at the Zero/Center position.
- Quad Delay: Dry/Wet(50%/50%), Time(449 ms), Feedback (15), Rate and Depth(off), Diffusion(10 "total panned").
With this setup I've got a pretty solid base to play things in the "Super Colossal" album. What I do is to apply an EQ to this base to fit it in the mix or to emulate the original sound from Satch in the original themes. In this case, "Ten Words", I find that it sounds pretty good and relatively close to the original, despite my guitar is only a JS-100. Try it and get fun!!!
I hope you like it! Greetings.
Hey great video. Very nice job recreating the legendary sound of the great Joe Satriani. Not too shabby. If you don't mind I'd like to give you some pointers on achieve the perfect sound, having been a professional Sound Technician for many years. Try dialing down the distortion/drive a tiny bit, and add a sustain effect to make the strings more sensitive to the touch. This will help give you a more softly distorted sound while at the same time being sensitive to the touch for legato techniques.

I have a JS1000, big bad wah, satchurator, etc. and I still can't sound like Satriani. Only Joe can sound like Joe.
