On April 7, 2009, a public hearing on the "True Costs and Benefits of US Military Aid to the Middle East, 1980-2010)," was held on Capitol Hill, in Washington, D.C., in the Rayburn House Building, room 2168. One of the speakers was ex-Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD). He said that pressure groups, on Middle East issues, have "a hold on Congress." He mentioned "AIPAC" as one of the groups. The portion of the Arab world that is oil-rich earns more money each year than the trade surpluses of The People's Republic of China and they have been essentially earning this money since 1974.

I would think that by now they would have enough money to not only get the US Congress to "shrug off" AIPAC but to also gain the overall sympathy of the American Public as well.

But, they haven't.

That's because the message of the oil-rich Arab world is pretty awful.

I admire the courage of ex-Rep Gilchrest to speak out against AIPAC and the other lobbies preventing the US from pursuing a foreign policy that is in the US interest in the Middle East. Unfortunately few sitting congressmen will, because they fear they won't be re-elected.
