  • The bars and the floors are flexible nowadays to allow the athletes to jump higher and do more crazy things. Everything on the film were: Concrete floors, metal bars.

  • Good point. Take a look at those bare hands on the still rings, wow! I'm sure the technology for the equipment has improved also, to allow for more difficult skills.

  • This is incredible! Where can I get video footage like this? my grandparents were in the 1936 Olympics, both gymnasts for the US, I'd love to get video of them Frank and Irma Haubold.

  • If only they could see what gymnastics is like now.

  • That's incredible :O

Where the hell did you find that clip?

That dude on the rings... He just kept going. And bare hands on the bar? Stuff that lol.

  • What people are forgetting is that this floor is completely dead. The gymnasts are doing incredibly well without a sprung floor! We don't have a sprung floor at our gym either and it's really hard!! :)x

  • @kayper54 Yes, I've seen flares on floor exercise, but they do more of them and longer on pommel horse. and very few girls do flares on balance beam. and we're not talking about female gymnasts anyway.

  • @LMA629 You've never seen flares done in a floor exercise? Girls have even been doing them on the balance beam for at least 20 years now, maybe longer.

  • @kayper54 flares?

  • I'm not sure what purpose the pommel horse serves these days that the other 5 events don't exhibit as well or better.

  • wow, even as a modern gymnast i find some of the pommel horse routines impressive

  • @FreddoX1 in all honesty they probably didn't tumble on concrete, putting carpet over grass would obviously be a much better solution
