  • Oh yeah, I have a question.

Are you running mediums... with .17b and .13e or mediums all around. I'm trying to get my twelve fine tuned.

  • @jsipflatpickd28

    thanks :)

And great about Elderly Instruments, good luck!

I use a .013 for the two top E strings and a .017 for the two B strings, and a .024w for the octave A string. The rest are all extra lights -- I just replace those strings in a standard .010 - .047 set. I like using light strings tuned down for some reason...

  • @SlightReturn

That's why you've got the tissue up on the nut, to reduce the rattling?

  • @jsipflatpickd28

Yep -- there's a lot of 'ringing' (harmonics or something) if you strum all the strings and immediately mute them. It's a bunch of harmonic jangly stuff floating around in the soundhole -- it's subtle, but when I use a tissue or sponge rubber or something just to mute the strings behind the nut, I really think it makes a big difference. Keeps the notes from running over each other a bit!

But yeah, I've experimented a lot with strings, and you'll find what works for you, but for my own self, I like making some select strings heavier, but overall using lights and tuning down quite a bit. On the Strat I like using a .009-.042 or a .009-.038 tuned down at least a half step, usually a whole. My weak hands like strings that are a tiny bit like spaghetti XD
