This very rare orchid species is found only on the Arfak Mountains in Papua New Guinea. It flowered today in our garden at home in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Usually it flowers once a year but due to the present climatic condition, it did not do so for the last 5 years. This Bulbophyllum genus looks prehistoric and the head of the flower reminds us of a dinosaur called Velociraptor. Its texture also look like scales. This is a full grown flower and is not the 'bud'. It is still early and later on, there would be a slit, moving the top portion slightly backwards. So far our previous flowers did not sucessfully developed into seed pods. This is due to the absence of a particular insect pollinator.
