Most people do not realize that a lot of soldiers did not hate hitler or the nazis. They just followed orders. Also many people did not know about the holocaust. People knew jews were dissapearing, but know one knew were they went and what happened. At the time, hitler seemed like a hero. He pulled germany out of its worst economic situation and turned it into the second strongest nation in the world.

@nahewein Wie schon gesagt: die Sieger schreiben die Geschichtsbücher. In der Meihnung der Amis War jeder Landser ein Nazi und Mörderer, aber hier muss ich nur sagen das am 6. Juni 1944 General Maxwell Taylor seinen Truppen diesen Befehl erteilte:

"Do not take Prisoners, they will only slow us down".

I lived in Germany during the war and all we knew was that our jewish neighbors disappeared or school buddies did not come to school anymore, but we never knew what happened to them. We were just told not to mention them anymore.

Typical moron over here. Where in my post did I defend the Nazi regime or what they did? I was just commenting on the patriotic nature of many of the German soldiers during the war. Much like Americans were fervent in their patriotism after 9/11, or Serbs were nationalistic after the assassination of Ferdinand, so where Germans after their maltreatment at Versailles. If believing that makes me a Nazi, then hell, I guess I know nothing about history...(That isn't the case.)

@nahewein Enlich mal jemand der das gleiche sagt...die wirklichen nazis waren richtige schwein das will ja keiner bestreiten aber die soldaten die im alter von 18 in den krieg eingenzogen wurden und in russland oder sonst wo verreckten waren zu 99% keine nazis sondern opfer des NS reschiems
